Update: Norway, November 21, 2011

Norway 2011

This weekend we have been hanging out in Bergen with Pastor Svein and people from 11 different nations!

It has been soooo awesome getting to fellowship, pray, worship, and minister with the Body of Christ from all over. There are people from Russia, Kyrgystan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Norway, Sweden, Canada, America, and Colombia!

The world really feels a lot smaller as you meet people from the opposite side of it and fellowship with them!

We had a great time of sharing testimonies with each other and getting to know each other. We’re about to head up the mountain in Bergen to pray over the city and then tonight we will be leading worship at the church service. Tomorrow we’re off to Alesund to visit with Jim and Henriette Freegard (Josh’s parents) :) and so we’re SUPER excited to see them and minister with them.

More to come!!!

Update: Norway, November 17, 2011

Hello Friends and Family!!!

After 3 plane rides, over 27 hours of travel, and very little sleep, our team of 22 (including our Norwegian friend, Aslak) arrived in Borkenes, Norway on Thursday, November 10. The weather was unusually warm for this time of the year, which was a blessing to all of our Texan friends :) We spent the weekend in Borkenes, ministering with our good friend, Jon Erling (pastor in Kassfjord, Norway). We did 3 concerts, a school outreach to over 100 students (they were brought to the church during school hours), and a prayer conference. It was an AMAZING time filled with so much joy and freedom in the LORD! 7 people gave their lives to the LORD that weekend and many more were deeply touched and ministered to by the presence of God. On Monday, Borkenes received their first snow of the year! We were excited to be able to witness it and Jason had fun building a snow man to greet the kids with for the Monday night concert. :)

On Tuesday morning, we left at 4am to get to the airport for two more plane rides to get us to Trondheim, Norway, where we stayed the night at the Nordic Prayer Center in Levanger, Norway. We ministered there through teaching and leading worship alongside with Sean Feucht, the founder of the Burn. It was so refreshing to spend hours in worship and prayer, interceding for the nation of Norway.

The team has been faithfully walking out in the giftings that God has given them through giving words, pictures, visions, and dreams to people, along with ministering to people in words of encouragement and prayer. We’re all so united and love encouraging each other and building each other up, which has made being together extremely refreshing!

We’re now on our way to Bergen, Norway, traveling in an awesome double decker bus with Svein, our amazing bus driver! He is such a servant of God who has put a lot of his own time and money into helping us out. He really looks forward to driving us each year and looks at it like vacation. :)

Thank you so much for your prayers! Please keep praying for us as we travel and minister in Bergen, then Alesund, and finally Oslo.

More to come!

Not by strength or by power, but by my spirit says the Lord

As a worship leader at the Honor Academy,  I have the privilege to usher people into the throne room of God. It is so awesome to see authentic worship given to God from surrendered and broken hearts. I love to see people of every age transformed by the loving Father as they lift up an undignified, God-focused praise.
For a while I struggled with taking full responsibility when I thought that some of the congregation was not engaging in worship. I felt responsible if people were not being transformed when I knew that the presence of God was moving in a powerful way. I began to think things like,” If I only sang better or said a better prayer then people would respond more.”

I realized that I began to push harder in the physical by trying to sing better and louder. Although these are not wrong things to do, my heart behind them was to get a response from the people rather than lifting up my own praise to God. They responded, for a while. Then God asked me, “Now what?” I realized I was exhausted after worship and did not know where or what the next level was. I took this to God because I didn’t understand what was going on. Why weren’t people responding? Was I not doing my job well enough?

John 4 spoke volumes to me. Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well and revealed that He is the Savior that she had heard about. When the woman declared that he was a prophet, Jesus paid no attention to that. He did not talk about how great of a man he was or how many miracles he performed. He knew where she was at in life, and pointed her to Himself.

Transformation began in her life, not because she met a prophet or a great songwriter or a great worship leader. Transformation began because she had an encounter with Jesus, her Savior. I began to ask myself, “Am I pointing people to Jesus or are am I relying on my own gifts and relationship with God to bring change in the heart of man? Am I limiting God’s power by thinking that if I do everything right then people will worship Him?” The truth is I was relying on my own gifts, strength, and relationship with God.  Silly me!

God showed me through John 4 that if I show people who Jesus is, and they choose to meet with Him, they will worship Him. I felt like all pressure was off. I realized that my gifts and talents would never change the heart of man. They were never meant to. It is only a tool that God chooses to use when I use them for His glory.
After every service I get to lead worship for I have to remind myself of this truth. I do see that there are some people who do not engage in worship and I have to stop and remind myself that what I did was for God and his people. I have to ask myself, did I show people Jesus? If I did or did not, leave it to Him to have His way. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life,  no one gets to the Father except through Him. (John14:6)
